    Zero Turn

Well the old riding mower has seen better days and is costing too much to keep going.

Ready for a zero turn! Thing is, I have no experience with them.

Would like to hear some feed back on the history each of you have had with your zero turn.

    Maybe some repair history
Hours ran before first big repair etc.

50" is what I am looking to get because the trailer I will haul it in will only allow that size.

I mow about 1.5 acres (cows "mow" the rest, THANK GOD) lol

not TOO concerned with price because I need to make sure I get something that will last.

    Thanks as always!

Search "zero turn" on here. They have been discussed many times. You will have hours of reading to do after you do that.

Love mowing with a zero turn. My dad has a Kubota and we have a Scag where I work . I havnt seen much repair on the Kubota but the maintenance on the Scag at work is monthly with something always wrong. I personally was in the same boat you are in a couple weeks ago. I mow 2 acres and cows also take care of the rest. As much as I wanted a zero turn I ended up going with a 48" cut Husqvarna riding mower and so far love it. Decking material is thick and 10 year warranty. Other brands material was thin and had bad to mix reviews. Takes an hour and 15 minutes to mow 2 acres. They also have a 55" cut I believe. The periodic problems and maintenance of the one at work scared me away and I didn't want to spend $5,000 on a Kubota. If money isn't an issue get a zero turn. You could probably mow in 45 minutes. I'm sure if the guys would take more care of the one at work as if it were there own it would be better. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I really don't know just a whole lot about these things, but I do about 10 acres every Saturday on a gravely zero turn. The deck moves up and down by hydraulics, and the thing is made where it's easy to service. The covers and floor plates all fold up for easy access. It has two big gas tanks and will cut forever without needing to fill up.

Just got done reading a bunch of comments as Keith recommended above.

I have it narrowed down to 3.
            John Deere (from dealer)
            Gravely
            Kubota

Now I have to find the best deal on financing. Really do not want to pay interest and shouldn't have to with my credit.

For that small acreage I would look at the Kubota Kommander. It is a great little mower. It is perfect for that size. Super fast and smooth. I mow 2 acres with one and love it. It is a 48 inch cut. Kubota had 0% financing so that part was easy. Have not had to do anything to it except change the oil and filters and sharpen the blades.

Have you looked at SCAG mowers? I have three of them and they have been great machines.

Call the Kubota dealership in Livingston. They took really good care of me when I bought my zero turn 10 years ago. I've put mine threw hell & back. As far as maintenance. I've done very little besides an axle breaking @ 800 hours due to a bad cast.

I have a couple places I am going to stop by on my way home.

                        Brookside Equipment
                        Fosters Equipment

Both on 290 I will stop in and check their deals.

Whatever brand you decide, it's always a big bonus to go with a dealer that is close to you. I've run Scag and JD and both have been solid, however I prefer the Scag due to cut quality. Kubota and Ex mark both are solid units as well, the downside to Kubota is that parts are a bit pricey and the downside to Ex Mark is that they don't cut wet grass exceptionally well.
