This isn't about surfside but I was out on the west side of Galveston Island on Friday. Got onto the island around 5:45AM. Surf was really calm but lots of seaweed still floating around right off the beach. Drove down towards the west end of the island to wade West Bay. Water was really calm on the bay side and fairly clear. I was out in the water for 6:30 and bait fish were getting busted everywhere! Tossed twitch baits for an hour or so and caught nothing. Wind really picked up and stirred the water up real bad by the time it died down. I switched over to a chartreuse jighead with TTF hackberry hustler (pumpkin/chartreuse). Caught undersized specs and rat reds all morning. Literally hooking up on back to back casts over and over. I got out the water at 10:30 with nothing to show. Talked to a few other guys got there around the same time as me and they didn't catch the quantity of fish I did, but they had several nice slot reds on a stringer. Caught on live croaker under a popping cork.Comment

Caught 15 on topwaters on bolivar friday morn. My boy and I will be on dawn patrol in the morning hoping to do a repeat!Comment

Fished surf side this AM. Caught 5 solid trout and a bluefish, lost countless others. Silver spoon was the ticket for me. Bite was done by 830 and then the seaweed mats started moving in. Tried to set the long lines but couldn't keep the weed off the lines.Comment
