uh... its not illegal to not use a tollway?...
.. do you mean....using the tollway and not paying the toll? (running through the lights)
the fine for 3 violations (which is when they usually send you the ticket) was $75 ..and if you didnt pay it ...you wouldnt be able to renew your registration..and penaties kicked in.
This is FACT for Beltway8 (which is managed by the HCTRA)... as I had to pay it for my wife who also didnt believe the fine would be very much.
It was $25 per incident and they usually do not send you the fines until you've accumulated 3..Last edited by systemnt; 07-03-2014, 12:21 PM.

If you bypass the toll way I wouldn't think there would be a cost. If you go thru without an EZ tag I don't think it is much more than the toll. They give you at least one free pass.
They just completed a lot of the toll way on 99 near Sugar Land. I still ride the feeders for free and in this case the time takes about the same as it always dds.

this is correct . . . it's not the cost of the toll it's considerably higher failure to pay will suspend your license.
My wife and daughters were oblivious to this as well and figured you got a bill for the toll . . . .

Don't do it in Houston. Here's my experience:
That being said, I was able to "settle" with them for less, but it was still obscene.
They allegedly can prevent you from getting new registration tags on your vehicle, but I know some who owe over $9,000 who still have no problems after five years. The fact of the matter is that they are not a government entity, as much as they pretend to act like one (or at least that's what the director of TxTag told me).
