    Yeti Cooler Bandwagon Departure

I drank the Kool-Aid and decided to pick myself up a 65 quart Yeti. I have been using it everyday for the past 8 days to keep bottled water and Gatorade in while working outside. Here is how it has played out:

    Wednesday morning:
Brand new cooler - take tags off and fill with ice on top of drinks. Opened cooler no more than 5 times all day.

Left ice in and cooler latched overnight.

    Thursday:
Opened cooler no more than 5 times to retrieve refreshment

    Friday morning:
Pick up more drinks to add for the weekend. Cooler contains 85% water / 15% ice mix. Drain some water out. Add another bag of ice.
Open cooler no more than 5 times to retrieve refreshment.

    Saturday:
Open cooler 2 times all day. 2nd time was to add ice and drinks for the evening. 85% water/15% ice mix again.

    Sunday:
    Did not open cooler.

    Monday morning:
Pick up more drinks for the day. 85% water/15% ice mix again. Drain water. Add ice. Open cooler no more than 5 times all day to retrieve refreshment. Left cooler closed overnight.

    Tuesday:
Open cooler no more than 5 times all day to retrieve refreshment. Left cooler closed overnight.

    Wednesday:
Add more drinks in the morning. 85% water/15% ice mixture again. Add ice.

    Thursday morning (today):
Added more drinks. 85% water/15% ice mixture.

So basically I am going through 20 lbs of ice in less than 3 days. So much for "keeps ice longer". I have a $40 Coleman at the house that keeps ice longer than that. To say I am disappointed would be an understatement.

Overrated ice chests, I borrowed a buddys big Yeti one weekend for a lake trip, filled with food and drinks on Friday. By Sunday I the ice was half gone and we kept them inside all weekend, cuz it was August. My brothers 100 Qt. Coleman still had way more ice left than the yeti did and we were in and out of them about the same amount. Ill never own one, status thing, I guess, no thanks...

I think the fine line in the booklet says it keeps ice longer in colder weather.
I'm with you I have one and not that inpressed.

"You have to cool the cooler before u add drinks. You did the process wrong so of course its not gonna work."

I do not own one, but this sort of comment always seems to be the defense.

that's why they say to add ice first to cool off before adding anything else... then add something like a 2 to 1 ice ratio. Works good if you do it that way but 2 to 1 ice is not much room for what you actually want to keep cold in there.

Agreeing with the above post.. this is what the expected response is

So let me get this straight..You have a size 65......Put in a couple of drinks and add one 10lb bag of ice?....is that what I am reading?

Just a fad, kinda like bell bottoms and afro's it'll fade away. Something new will come out for the people with more money than common sense

I own one of the original Yetis and have been extremely happy with it and have tested it against several other coolers, side-by-side during our Indian Guide campouts. There is no question it is superior to the other regular Colemans and such.

I'm going to guess that the flaw in your testing is the drinks. I'm guessing you are loading the cooler up with warm drinks and then filling with ice. ANY cooler is going to melt the ice like you are experiencing if you are filling with warm cans or bottles of drinks. The ice is melting as it is cooling down the liquid.

Now, if you are filling with pre-chilled drinks and the ice is melting to 15% ice and 85% liquid, I have no answer for you. I have filled mine with chilled drinks and ice and it has held ice and kept cold for over 5 days in my garage with me going in and getting drinks out of it during the day.

What temp of drinks are you loading it with? Room temp or Chilled?
