I guess it depends on which game ranch they escaped from. I don't know of any free range Axis deer in Texas except for the ones that broke out of jail.

At one point some got out but there are very large herds throughout the hill country that have never been inside a fence and are true wild axis now.

I know they get up to Brady at least

They had to start in a fenced in area at some point right? The ones you speak of may be a 2nd or 3rd generation removed from captivity and are truly wild and I would love for one or 10 of them to make there way to my little piece of Heaven in Quitman but that will probably never happen unless they escape from one of the many high fence operations in this part of Texas

Plenty around possum kingdom. They are cold sensative from what I've read being native to India...

Correct. There ears will freeze off.

The one I killed in Rocksprings had lost his ear tips in a freeze, so I would imagine they won't migrate too far north.

I don't know how true that is. I have shot my best Axis in 15 degree weather in Feb2012 in Kerrville. Free range animals too. Yes at one point they have started out as a fenced animal. But who knows when and how many generations removed? It really doesn't matter anyway. If it steps out in front of my feeder its gonna get double lunged.

Axis were introduced to Tx in the 30's.... and all were not put behind HF, if any of those...

Edwards plateau is chock full of them

Can't answer how far north they go but they can handle the single digit weather there well

Did they have high fences in 1932? I'm pretty sure the YO imported them, but have no clue if they had high fences in the thirties.
