    Panhandle food plot

Wanting to try a food plot this fall. Only second yr on lease. Not sure what works there. In Foard co. Crowell area. Drought has taken its toll but recent rains are doing some good. Surprisingly the area wheat did fairly well around us. Im wanting something different and more appealing. It will be a small plot, 1/2-3/4 acre. What works good in that area? Thanks

    I'd use wheat

tritacale works really well. i mix it w/ forage oats and it brings them in. i found out if you buy your mix from a local place they have the specific variety that works in that area.

Do you know of place in the Crowell area?
As stated before, I want something different than wheat, it's all around us. I have deer hitting the feeder good, just want something different different and maybe more appealing.

We used something called mung beans on our place near Thalia that was south of the river mixed it with Wheat and milo.

Cereal Rye would work well for the panhandle. Its the most cold tolerant of all the cereal grains and the deer will hammer it. Its extremely easy to grow too.

Coop in Vernon, if not there are some feed stores all over that area that will order for you and give advise on when to plant and what fertilize.
