    Suggestions for Elk hunting backpack?

In September I am going to Colorado for a week long Elk hunt. We are renting horses and packing into the mountains for a week. Definitely off the grid. Can anyone suggest a backpack that will work well for packing in/out and when I am out hunting during the day? I was looking at the Eberlestock "Just One" pack. I would like to be able to strap my bow to it for walking long distances. I am also open to suggestions for a good pair of hiking boots that will also work well for hunting in the mountains.

I am really liking the new kuiu ultra. There are better packs out there but not for the money. If you want to drop some coin go with a stone glacier or a kifaru

Boots are built for different body sizes and needs. I would not buy a packpacking boot if you are not carrying alot of weight. ASOLO is the brand that fits me best. Buy yhr lightest pair that your feet like.

ASOLO boots are what I like as well.

I have a Kifaru as well. Stone glacier makes good packs too.

        In other words.......what they said.^^^^^lol!

The Kuiu packs are legit. I don't have experience with any of the other upper-end type packs, but I do have a Kuiu (purchased last summer) that I thoroughly enjoyed using while chasing elk last September.

That's a great pack for day-trips, but it is not suitable for a week-long elk hunt in my opinion. The primary reason I say this is because of the lack of a dedicated meat halting shelf. I have made the mistake of downing an elk miles from the truck with a Badlands 2200 on my back!

It's a great pack for many things, but I don't believe it suits the needs of the OP... (just my opinion)

Eberlestock blue widow.. I have badlands now but the blue widow is awesome for carrying and organizing. It will likely be my next pack unless I am very impressed when I get to see the Kuiu in person.

Dedicated pack frame for meat hauling and carrying gear in. Light, cool pack for hunting. I use a fanny type belt pack for the hunt and could really get by without it in a pinch. Water and camera are the two things that make me cinch up a light pack of some kind. Anything else you need for the hunt can be carried in your pockets.

Here is what I am using. I can go as light as just the frame for carrying my essential gear(water, tripod/spotter, gps, food) and be ready to start packing meat back to camp without an additional trip to get another pack. I toss the big bag on and I can pack in all my gear plus a little room for extra if needed.

Post number 14 has me packing out a complete muley deboned plus skull.

As for boots, Kenetrek Mountain Extremes have been a great fit for me.

The OP is packing in on horses, and is doing a spike camp/base camp. Check out Rokslide.com.. there are lots of pack reviews and recommendations there.

KIFARU hands down. They are a little more expensive but worth it and maybe the most durable

Kifaru is awesome. I recently got a nomad and I think it will be a very versatile pack. I think your pack choice will depend on how much you will be packing. If just to hunt them take a 2000-3000 in day pack. That should hold water, food, knives, rain gear, etc. if you have to pack the elk or camp on your back then I would go bigger and better. Things like kuiu, kifaru, mystery ranch, etc for hunting packs or osprey/mountaineering packs. Eberlestock will work for the price. I took one on my dall sheep hunt last year. Overall happy until I loaded it heavy. Seemed to ride low and pull away from my back with heavy weight. As mentioned above, but the best boots you can afford and break them in. Good luck!
