    Too D*#+ close!!!!

My son Aiden and I went out to my dads place today to do some work on his setup out there. I mowed inside his pen and weedeated outside of it too. Grass was pretty tall. After I got done mowing I let my son get out of the truck as long as he stayed inside the pen. No problem. I got done filling the feeder and clearing out some limbs that were in the way of his shot and then set up the new hog light I made. I set the light in the far corner so when it came on it would light up the whole pen. Still no problems. We had 1 more limb to move that was in some thick stuff so we decided to use the truck to move it since we didn't want to get in the thick stuff. Dad walked around the same corner that my son and I were kneeling down at when he heard it. Rattlebug!!! My ol man, being redneck he is always carries a 22 revolver with rat shot in it when he's out and about. THANK GOD!!! He pulled that heater and went to shootin!! He doesn't like snakes either!! After the shooing was done we grabbed the limb we needed to move, threw that nasty creation in the back of the truck and headed to the house. Half way there my son says he's thirsty. I stop the truck, get out (watching the ground the whole time) and go to the cooler in the back of the truck. About the time I reached my hand in the cooler that **** snake rattled!!! I fell out of the back of the truck!! Scared the crap outta me again!! Here's some pics, with tape, on a tale gate. It would have been 3' but it somehow it lost his head....

This is where the light is. I was kneeled down between the light and post. Snake was at base of post. Stayed there the whole time I mowed and weedeated.

    The handsome one (me)

    The rattle

This snake was less than 3' from me and my son for a long time. Please be careful out there.
