Sounds like BS to me. We can use our VAC with sick days. No one cares.

This will make ya sick... especially when you can't use it. Following is what I have available:

            PTO/Vacation : 336 hours (42 days)

            Sick : 158.40 (19.8 days)

Usually take what amounts to about 10 days off a year and very rarely call in sick.

BTW if you're sick, it comes out of the sick bank and if it's PTO it comes out of the PTO bank.

Call in sick, just don't do it before/after a vacation day or holiday. If they ask what was wrong, tell them you ate a a cheapie restaurant the night before and spent the day between the couch and the crapper, if they'd like proof, you'll bring it in for inspection and analysis. You don't need to see a doctor for that. Company policies may specify after so-many days, they can ask for a doctor's note, but they need to let you know.

When I call in sick (which is rare and normally a day I just need rest) I always tell them that I'm sick...If they ask any questions I tell them "I had an intimate evening with my sister the night before, is that sick enough for you"......They usually don't ask me a second time......

I'm in a similar boat....I have 821 hours (102 days)of sick leave and 269 hours (33+ days) of PTO. We can cash out up to two weeks (80 hours) of PTO each year. I get 25 days of PTO each year (been here over 23 years). If I'm sick or going to the dr's for a visit ...its sick leave. We do have some employees that use sick leave as quick as they accrue it....if they run out they use PTO. If they are out of PTO, then no pay and possibly loose their job.

Being a supervisor I ask my associates what type of day they want to use when they come back from being out, that is the norm for all the places I have worked. If you do not tell them what to use then they can use what ever day they so choose to. Or we don't have to pay you either sick of vacation if we are not told, you lose a days pay. You have to manage your won hours for all supervisors and managers are not baby sitters, each associate if a adult and should be able to tell their supervisor to pay them a sick day or vacation when they are absent.

When my plant was bought out last year we lost ALL sick days.
Now it is just PTO no matter why you are off.

Funny thing is the plant manager says we can't be off without pay if we use up our PTO and then get sick.

Even funnier is the miraculous improvement of the health of my coworkers.
Those who used to take days & days (one guy= 1/2 year) are now CURED!

                      There went my OT .
