Who has them and how do you get rid of them? Them leaving those big dirt mounds leave good hole filling dirt but they are like rats at my grandmas. The snake id thread got me wondering, do chicken/rat snakes eat these things?

Out in my field I use elston 300 gopher plow behind my tractor but this year I found a machine that is hand held to use in my yard called YARD BUTLER and it works. They can be found at feed stores or on line at their web site.......It beats trying to shoot them and trap them I have tried both ways.....Andy

Do you have to actually bait their tunnel or just put it in the ground anywhere? My biggest concerns with poisoning them was that my dog would dig up the dead poisoned gopher and eat it.

The pocket gopher is the sole food source for the Louisiana pine snake (non-venomous). There's only a dozen or so known to exist still in East Texas. If you live anywhere east of Lufkin, I'd caution against killing the pocket gophers as it's one step closer to killing off the last of our pine snakes.
