I've got one just like it. Now ditch the 6v and that timer.

Get a 12v system and "the timer" plus a solar panel.

Then wrap it all in a coon cage made out of 1"x1" wire mesh. That will fit on the outside of that 55 gallon drum.

          Coon proof feeder. You're welcome.

Squirrels have hands like coons. They will open that up in no time. They are the spawn of the devil.

12v The Timer with Eliminator plate from Ultramatic feeders.

4 years and not a hiccup, coon, or squirrel. It may have killed a few squirrels when it went off! That baby scatters some corn!

With all the experienced I've encountered with feeders, I'll be the first one to say, you just gave them tree rats more flat form to rest on. I've used a similar set up just like that, ammo box, standard timer & motor box & such. Pls don't get me wrong, I am not downing your ideas but, the best luck I've had with feeders are. Just a bit away from the trees (have you ever seen tree rats jump from tree to tree while hunting) elevate feeder no lower than 10 foot of ground (To the bottom of feeder on a tripod with hand crank winch) mount timer box with motor separated from timer. (Kinda like Sweeney feeder) a little mods &, I was satisfied. You'll be shock how long a $60.00 timer/motor would last, compare to those high dollar once, specially by separating the timer from the vibs of the motor. Good luck & keep us posted.

^^^^^this is the way all my feeders are plus an eliminator plate and I no longer have to worry about coons or if my feeder is feeding!! Worth every penny to spend the money and do it right the first time
