M.E.B. from what I have been told, your best bet is to take defensive driving (cheaper) and if you get another ticket before you can take DD again (think in Tx it is 1 yr) then you take the deferred route to keep it off of your record.

Pretty sure deferred cost more than DD route, maybe not in all situations though

The officer, very nice black fellow named Harris said that I had rolled through while taking a right on red. My wife was with me and she is constantly on me about my driving. Worse back seat driver ever. She did not think I had. I figure I have done plenty without getting caught so I'm not worried about it either way. $230.00 + $20 if I do the deffered thing.

Now the last time I got a ticket was in New Mexico and it was a SPEED TRAP FROM HELL. I turned onto a highway from another. Two two lane black topped highways out in the middle of no where.

There was a sign propped up on a sand bag which said Road Constuction 35 mph. There was a brand new 2 lane black top in front of me as far as I could see. I drove 35 for about 3 miles and could not stand it as I had about 50 to drive down this road. I kicked it up to 70 mph with my wife gripping about it. I told her clearly they forgot to remove the sign after the road was completed.

Well sure enough after a bit a New Mexico Highway Patrol coming from the other way whups a U turn comes after me. I am told that I am doing 70 in a 35 mph. I said 35? Playing dumb. The officer says "The last sign you saw back there said 35 Road Constuction." I said "But officer that was 10 MILES back." He laughingly said "Yes and that was the last sign posted." I said "Ok but where is the construction?" He said up the road a bit. He gave me a ticket for doing 60 mph in a 35 mph, $75.00.

3 miles further up was a 1/4 mile stretch of road being worked on. I told my wife "This is B/S there should have been a sign maybe a mile tops ahead of this work saying to slow down. 13 miles is nothing but a speed trap doing 35 in the middle of nowhere on brand new road.

Funny thing coming from the opposite direction there was a sign to slow down about 1/2 mile from the constuction. 65 mph up to that point..........

New Mexico can eat my shorts.

Ha! Go to Lafayette, La. where it seems every traffic light has not only a camera but also a radar setup!

Watch out for the speed trap leaving Giddings west bound 290.
            Note:
I have not spent one cent in that town since my last ticket there. I used to spend from $600-800 a month on gas, B&B, dinner.
