    Question

My wife and I along with our baby are wanting to drive through the hill country and then go over and go up the coast. Is there any scenic drives or routes that you would recommend? Is there a road that runs next to the coast? I live in North Texas so we're trying to find a trip to take and just see parts of Texas that we haven't seen. Thanks

Hwy 16 South from Llano (detour on Willow City loop for a scenic slow roll) into Fredericksburg then east on hwy 290. Make a quick pitstop in Luckenbach on 1376 for a cold one. Too many choices to list in that area. Marble Falls and the Highland Lakes on 281 are great also.

If you like pine trees and trailer houses. Be sure to stop at Rollover Pass and talk to the pretty girls running the bait shop.

I concur with the Willow City loop. We did that again last weekend and WOW. You would think you're in New Mexico or somewhere besides Texas. Even if it's out of the way, you gotta check that out. Every time I get the chance I love to slow roll through that area. I think it would be very cool to have a deer lease in that area.

It's pretty hard to do the hill country and coast roads too...plus the coast road are pretty ugly/industrial for the most part...my suggestion would be to plot a cross country route from your home to Junction (on I10 north of Kerrville)...then cut right at Kerrville and go to Bandera. (Northwest of San Antonio)...If you are inclined, swing west to Utopia...by that time you will have seen some of the best hill country in my humble opinion... and then drop down to 90 and cut across to 37 and drop the hammer for the coast. When you hit Corpus take SPID straight through town (or stop for the night) and hit the national seashore or the sticks area just north of there for a day...cut back through Port Aransas, take the ferry, and then decide if you want to go East and then north from there...
