Green has always worked well for me. I turn it on facing the sky when I hear them coming. Once they are in range I pan it down over about a one minute period............. They never even know what hits them.

Yes.

Don't worry about trickery with "haloing" or "dropping it down on them". Just get a red light and turn it on however you want. Never an issue.
