    River float recommendations

I think me and the family are going to plan a trip to New Braunfels area and try a river float trip. We've never been there before and need some pointers.

I'm not a huge fan of crowds. Is there a river that's less crowded or is going during the week less crowded ?

I will have my 15 year old daughter and my wife with me. Is it pretty family friendly ?

Depends on which camp site you go too. 2nd crossing is pretty family friendly, L&L has a live music venue now so I'd say family friendly there is 50/50. Both have nice Rapids/ripples that if the river is not floatable you can barr hug a rock as I call it (sit in wata and drink beer)

I take my kids during the week every year to float the Comal. During the week there are very few people on it and the kids have a blast. If you take any kind of drink it has to be in a reusable container. Even if it's water. Also you don't have to drag your tube at any time down the river.

We went with a group to float the Comal on Monday. Weather may have been a factor but there was no one floating. We ended up floating the Guadalupe because we had a raft and double tube for a buddies children. Found out that anything over 5ft long is illegal on the Comal and it will cost you about 250.00 per item. We floated the Guadalupe at the Horseshoe and literally were on the river with 3-4 more groups. The weather looked like it was going to rain but it cleared off as soon as we got on. I know from the past that the Comal is more family friendly. Again it was a Monday but my buddies were staying at L&L and it was nice.

Can Ban is no longer. Only restrictions are staying within the body of water, no styrofoam, no glass, and nothing over 5 ft on the Comal

My family and I love the Frio. Water level can sometimes be a factor (dragging tubes) but there are great swim spots and it is very family friendly!

We go every year and float the Horseshoe area. Been taking my kids since they were teenagers. There is ALOT of drinking and language and even seen someone smoking weed once. But never seen any nudity. The rules up around the horseshoe are a little bit looser as far as beverages go. I would think during the week would be less crowded, but the crowd is part of the fun (people watching).

OK the horseshoe is on the Guadalupe ??? Does the Guadalupe usually have plenty of water? This dragging and carrying tubes sounds like it could interfere with my beer drinking !!!

If you don't want to drag do the comal. Didn't know the can ban was gone but I figured it wouldn't last

I was there last weekend and the river was low. We walked a lot. I would def try float the comal. The conditions will be extremely better.

Comal is not as rough either very nice, but anytime school is out going to be a bunch of loud and drunk kids down there. Try to go on non holiday weekends. it will make a big difference.

Like I said, sit in this pool and watch people walk by dragging tubes. Reach under water, retrive another beer and enjoy the day

We only have two rivers, the Comal which always has water but gets crowded or the Guadalupe but the Guadalupe is low right now so you might bump your butt on the rocks. Also San Marcos has the San Marcos river which I hear is good but I have never been on it.

San Marcos river is good but is not really family friendly due to Texas state. I float the zonal and love it.
