Sounds like they've been out of the house for a while since the big cracks started forming...

Buddy of mine lived a street over for several years so I've seen this house a few times. It's a gorgeous house and a sad deal. But, I'd guess it's always a risk building on the edge of a cliff.

I used to sell lots out there. We pitched those lots to customers for hundreds of thousands of dollars. When they'd ask what if the cliffs collapse we would say "look, those cliffs have been there for hundreds of years, they haven't moved, you can rest assured they will be there for hundreds more. Sad thing is their "investment" in real estate literally just lost ridiculous value, along with the other houses on that bluff.
