I don't know much about stocks but I know that the company I work for is at a record high! The higher it goes the closer my retirement gets

I've got thousands of options to buy at $32.41, $47.21 and $64.21. The stock closed at $93 today. I've been holding out because I have no idea how to do it but I'm reaching out to a CPA in a couple of weeks and will be buying some. Do I have to have the money cash to buy them or can I do something else? Also my boss told me that once I exercise the options I have to hold the stocks for a year or I have to pay another tax on them? He mentioned there are two kinds of taxes? I don't really want to tie up thousands of dollars from my savings for a year to avoid paying the second tax. I could be wrong on all this tax info lol.

He's just talking about short vs long term gains taxes. I would rather pay taxes on gains than have no gains at all. If you really have thousands of $32 calls on a $93 stock you're sitting on a gold mine. Talk to your broker.

And you don't need money to sell them. If you sell a 32 option at when the stock is at 92 you just get the 60 difference.

I assume these options came from your employer? Talk to a broker just to make sure..1,000's of them are worth a lot..obviously.

              Pretty exciting
They have 2 firm FDA dates now. Nov 18th is the Advisory Committee review date. Then Feb 27th is the FDA decision date.

BNHLF - Still holding and waiting. Hoping for a run very soon. Data due in less than 3 weeks.
TTNP - Sold it all after good data.
APT - Bought a bunch and waiting for the next scare for it to run.

BLOZF - Watching. Not sure why it dropped so much. Taking to long to develop product? May be good when they pump it again on more pot news.

That's it.. A little slow on picks right now. Any ideas? Post up if you have one, just please explain why it should rise.
BNHLF finally started moving. 46 cents now. I'm back in TTNP after reverse split and firm FDA date also on Feb 27th

BNHLF jumped to .66 I sold it all because I think Seeking A issued a big pump article on it. Will let it settle and look to reenter. Was the biggest gain I've had in about a year with stocks. In at 22-23 cents out between 55 and 65 cents 45-50k shares

Anybody ever buy arch coal? I bought it when it was alittle over $1, 5 weeks later it went to over $9. I sold my stuff but will buy more when it drops alittle closer to the $1 range again.

Had a great October with Aaple and Conoco Phllips. Might take some profits when COP gets to $60 then buy more on the pullback.

How are you able to amass that many shares?
I ask because I dabble in penny stocks but unless I buy them in 1k lots nobody is game for 10k or even 5k loads.

Fidelity flagged my account once and accused me of trying to "move the market" when trying to buy 10k shares.

Anyhow, You're lucky you got out of BHNLF it's down under 0.25 now

I recently took a bath on HERO (hercules offshore) I was riding the waves and got caught

It's a 2x leveraged ETF for VIX short time futures so it's high risk. Please don't buy and hold it without knowing what you are getting into. I don't trade it on up days.

Otherwise just pick some best of breed stocks that can weather these storms. DIS, SLB, NKE, HD, SBUX, FB, CVX, AAPL, WM are pretty high on my list. DIS I would probably wait until after earnings. I think they aren't going to have a great earnings this time because of ESPN. They warned last time and recently had layoffs. But with Star Wars movie and Christmas, their Feb earnings should be good. If you can get it after a pullback especially if it drops about 8% to the 92-94 range, then it's a great buy. NKE just reported a good quarter so look for any whole market drop as a time to buy them.
Hope the Santa Claus rally the last few days has benefitted everyone. I'm loving life this year with double digit positive returns in both my accounts.

Quoted my earlier post because that would have really paid off. NKE released a good earnings back in Sept and in Nov pulled back. If you bought in Nov you are looking good going into the 2:1 split tomorrow. I actually sold within .25 of the high today in the 136 range and bought back at 128 later in the day. Have the same number of shares as i started the day plus $8/share cash in my account. Better to be lucky than good sometimes!

The stocks that I listed I have DIS, SBUX, NKE, FB, and AAPL as my top 5 holdings. Nice to have 4 of those up double digit gains this year with AAPL as the only one negative for the year. 3 of the 5 are over 30% gains with a couple in the 40% or more range. DIS has been pulling back because the fear if ESPN loses but a little further to around 100 and I'll probably add to my position.

Hope everyone else had a great year. This was my best year financially in a long time! Looking forward to taking this momentum into 2016!

Well is now the time to get into Oil and Gas? Most were up 10%-20% today.

I wouldn't. I'd gamble that it will go back down, then buy. But, I tend to buy things on sale instead of paying full retail price.

                              Agreed. Buy the dips.

I use Interactive Brokers. I can buy however many shares I want if someone is selling. I didn't have that many shares...maybe 30k max in any one account. I also use E-trade for my IRA's

If markets dip more keep an eye on these IMO
PGNX - FDA date of April 19th - I'm holding for $6 per share - Looking to buy more shares closer t0 $4
PETX - March 25th date for possible approval of a pet drug. It ran a lot and I sold. But will re-enter if it drops soon to under $4. If it hangs tough above $4.50 I will just watch.
ONTY - Upcoming ASCO in June - Target 1.40-1.60 - I want to buy any dip closer to $1 to play it safe on this one.

Be careful with these as you can't hold past any critical dates. Must sell when you have gains etc.
