    Catahoula---strokes? Any vets?

My catahoula is about 5 yrs old. Tonight we watching TV and he sits on the couch next to my recliner. Something caught my eye and I look over and his whole body is locked up and he is shaking. Eyes dilated and is responsive by looking in the direction of my voice. I finally get him on the floor and he is staggering, cant hold balance and very uncoordinated, falling against the wall. then 2-3 minutes later, he is fine. We cannot find any meds or poisons laying around that he might have gotten into. From the time I noticed to finish, he was out for 6-7 minutes. Any ideas?
Taking to vet in the AM.

    Scary Scary.

I've heard of dogs having seizures before, but I forgot the reasoning behind them… I'm sure there are several causes.

It sounds like an epileptic type problem from the description.

I have a male beagle who has had a couple of seizures that lasted a few minutes. The other hounds freak out while it's happening.

Vet suggested to get the other hounds away and calmly talk to him while rubbing his back. Once he snaps out of it he will pace around the yard and seems to fully recover within about 5 minutes.

This happens to my lab every couple of months.

Could stem from the tv flashing, being overly stimulated, a recent blow to the head. If it's not that, could be a problem from poison or possible chemical imbalance.

Above is one of the threads I previously posted on about seizures. Seems likely in your case. Definitely see your vet. Feel free to ask any questions that weren't answered in that thread.

Small world agvet! I was telling my wife what a great place the green screen was and a vet answering questions and she asked what your screen name was. When I looked up your profile turns out she knows you. My wife is Tricia from Coleman.

Thats scary, hopefully you can find a cause.

My 7th grade science teacher raised coonhounds and had a dog that would have seizures but when he moved houses they stopped. His conclusion was that it was the water filtration system (only critical thing that had changed for the dog). Something different pH levels
