    Quick license question

Last year, I had nowhere to hunt and no possibility of being able to, so I didn't buy a super combo license, only the fishing portion.

For this upcoming season, I managed to get on a lease and I'm going tomorrow to get a spot or 2 set up and do some scouting. I was not planning on bringing a weapon except for a handgun strictly for personal protection, be it snakes, angry pigs, roaming zombies, etc.

I don't need a hunting license for that, correct? Just wanted to make sure.

Yep, only if hunting is a license required. If you had to kill something, let it lay.
        Or run like hell!! lol

There's a whole lotta gray In the shooting pig part. I'd advise against it but maybe you tell a taller tale than I could.

Gray area for sure. Self defense is probably pretty gray in the wildlife arena meaning it would be up to you to prove you weren't hunting it...

if the pistol is of a non hunting type... may be able persuade GW that it was for personal protection and nothing else.

still, a grey area being outdoors and all. you will probably be going after pigs before too long... go ahead and get the license.

I'd definitely buy a general license, it's a lot cheaper than a ticket. Also keep in mind there are a lot of opportunities at pigs and varmints over the next several months that you may be inclined to shoot or prep to shoot over the next couple months.

It's a grey area but being a representative of the land owner then any pigs or coyotes doing harm to the land or livestock should be fair game.

If you had to kill any critter in the woods and let it lay there wouldn't be any question from anyone. Now I don't mean just go shootin everything you see, but if a hog or possibly a yote or something was attacking you, shoot and let it lay.
And if you got a license and shoot a hog then when's the BBQ???

I don't see it as much of an issue if you aren't wearing camo and have a weapon commonly used in hunting. If you are camo'ed out, have a bag of corn to hand throw and a shotgun or rifle.... you might have issues.

Only time I'll shoot at a pig tomorrow is if it's a mad mama that I stumbled on. And then it's a warning shot first.

I didn't think about getting a license until right before I posted. I'll more than likely get one before the next one is available, but my plan was to leave before daylight. So getting one tomorrow is out.

Corn WILL be put out along with a cam, and I'll have a climber with me to check shot angles, cover, etc.

Here's another wrench in the equation... I'm bringing the dog with me and plan on running a few mock blood trails to get some practice in before the upcoming season.

No rifle, bow, or shotgun will be accompanying us tomorrow, but I'll more than likely be there from daylight to dark.

                        EDIT:
And I'll probably be wearing a white tshirt, jeans and work boots. So no hunting apparel.
