We got into sightcasting for black drum through canals just before you get to the ferry at Port A last summer and man was that ever fun!

We always take the fish the same night and have them cooked up at one of the local restraunts and the black drum ended up being the best tasting fish of any that we caught (Redfish/Trout/Back drum)

Think that depends what part of the state you are fishing. Up here on the Upper Coast, I don't see many people keeping them and I think that's because we have alot of mud flats, going further down the coast the water starts clearing and you find more sand bottoms which makes a cleaner eating fish.

I love black drum, and the worms won't hurt you one bit. If your wife and kids don't know that they are in there, fry 'em up and they disappear and are great eating fish - with or without worms.

Wife won't eat fish at all and the kid will eat anything so I'm planning to keep anything I catch that's edible.

Almost all (or all) inshore saltwater fish have worms in their flesh. I have seen the same worms in bass that I have caught in rivers but have never seen them in the big lakes..... yet.

If anyone has eaten common saltwater fish or in seafood restaurants, they have likely eaten worms.

But, I understand your sentiment. I fry 'em up and eat away.............

My slot limit is 14-20. Keeping one over 52 is like launching an ICBM horizontal from a submarine, you can but why would you.

I guarantee you when I cook a 20" or under black drum or red drum (redfish) you will loose every dollar we bet that you can't tell them apart. Unless I cook them on the half shell.

Black drum is great if under 20". Personally I like it just as much, if not more than redfish.
I usually cut them on both sides of the tail to bleed them out. Makes them taste even better.
