Another snake ID

Step dad killed it by the pond today. I know its not a cotton mouth but what kind of snake was it. He said it was swimming in the pond and he killed it coming up on the bank. JUST FYI IT WAS DEAD BEFORE I GOT THERE. My son couldn't resist poking around at it lol
