    Question for the welders

I need some advice. I'm trying to build some spinner plate adapters for some new feeders I'm working on. Trying to weld some 3"x3" tubing to a piece of 16ga sheet metal and then put a piece of 2" pipe on the back side for the down spout that will go to the spinner plate. The problem I'm having is the sheet metal is warping really bad when I weld the tubing on.

You'll have to "stitch" it. You can't let it get very hot.

Put less heat on it. And only do 1" welds spaced out about 5 inches apart

What if I weld about an inch on all four corners and silicone the rest of it??

You could do that, but I'd be worried about the durability of the silicone seal.

have someone TIG weld it for you.

Put good tack on all four corners then come back and stich weld it. Let it cool on its own and fill in the rest of the weld space that is left a little at a time or use thicker plate. May consider Tig welding it as well.

Are you doing this with a mig rig or stick?

Pulse weld it by moving from one side to another and keep it cool. You could also use some thermal paste for brazing to keep heat from flowing away from the weld joint or damp rag between sessions.

Just spot weld alternating sides, just line up and overlap a bunch of spot welds to keep the heat down.

Keep the heat on the heavy piece and drag the pool over onto the 16 ga. and you should be good
