    Red ants? Not fire ants

Does anyone know what kills these things? I know what a fire ant is and these are nothing like them. They are much bigger and really sting when they get you. I have tried all kinds of stuff and they are still there.

Those are good ants. I was always told not to kill them so I never learned how.

I believe it is a new imported ant. The native red ants will sting, but you can stand right next to their bed and they kind of ignore you unless you kill one and the pheromones are set off. Acephate is very effective. DE will work. Red ants will recolonize again. If truly red ants, they are good as the gather stickers and other non desirable seeds.

I tried it. Diesel and oil also (epa would want me killed for what I have tried). I need a poison and nobody seems to know. They are not good, they are tearing up my fields.

Turn a bunch of horny toads lose on them. They love those things. Of course, you've got to find the horny toads first, which is a chore these days!

Try extinguish plus. Will likely have to go to a feed store to get it. Tractor supply might have it, but I get it from the feed store.

It will take a few weeks to kill them all, if they are affected by it. It's a broadcast bait, so doesn't kill on contact. As I understand, it works better as a broadcast rather than poured on the mound.

Thats funny. Ive owned this place for five years and never seen one until three weeks ago. Since I spotted the first one I have seen 3 more. All in different places on the ranch. Next time I will catch one and try your remedy. Hope it works. Thanks

Mix deamon and some corn meal. Spinkle around the top of the mound.

I'm writing a thesis on the effectiveness of "Extinguish Plus" at killing fire ants and increasing bobwhite numbers. It's a reproductive inhibitor that takes a few months to work but has hit the ants on our test area HARD; all species.

They are "good" native harvester ants.

Until i plant and find them dragging away piles of wheat and oats, then they become dead ants via Demon.

Most folks around here only kill nest in the yard, the native ants are the primary food for horny toads. As much as I hate getting nailed by them little devils they get a pass unless in the yard.
