Let's talk about silencers for AR's

Which "can" do you guys prefer and what information do you have about their function? With a stamp you can pick up some decent stamps for less than 700.

A good friend of mine has one from Jett Supressors. He has every .22 cal he owns threaded for it. He even puts it on his dpms .204. It sure knocks down the report of the .204. I think he paid somewhere around $800 for it and $200 for paper work.

            Check out....

....silencertests.com There is wealth of information on that site.

I'm planning on getting a Spectra for my Shilen bbl .22mag pretty soon. I like the ones that come apart for cleaning. This one is NOT rated for .223 but costs less.

You are right, lots of good cans being made today.

I once saw an episode of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation where a dirty cop used a plastic coke bottle as a silencer

                  Don't the "cans" hurt accuracy?

Very interesting....might have to look into it if I can still shoot MOA or less groups at 100.

                  Thanks!

Cans can be a lot of fun. Expect the point on impact to change locations, but it's not a big deal once you learn (and remember) the scope settings for your gun with the can on, and the can off.

Before you get too far in the can research, you may want to check to see if your local law enforcement official will sign off on your application. If the chief LEO isn't keen on the ideal of civies having legal cans, he may not sign your application. You can get around that too, but it takes filing as a corp.

                              Travis,

                              +1 on Slacker's recommendation ...... JET.

If you can afford the JET Titanium model, that is the way to go (weighs around 12 ozs.)

Suppressors were mainly used for Spec Ops units, and have recently become more popular with LE agencies. I have several friends in Europe and NZ that use them for fox hunting when lamping at night.

Rifles will change POI when shooting with or w/out the suppressor. This is primarily because of the barrel weight and harmonics. Best bet is to sight in your rifle and leave the suppressor on. After shooting, it is important to clean the suppressor as it could rust depending upon metal composition.

here are several other companies that make "cans" and worth looking into and researching heir products.

                              AWS systems technology

                              GEMTECH

                              Advanced Armament

                              SWR mfg.

                              Tactical Innovations

FYI - ATF Form 4 needs to be completed and will cost you 200.00. Most quality suppressors will cost from $500 to $1000.
