    BGE Table

I have seen some of the tables that have been built by members. I currently have a cypress table that I bought on Ebay a few years ago. After a few summers in the Texas sun and outdoors the wood is rotting. I am considering building one on my own. Has anyone used cedar or redwood? I want something that I do not need to worry about covering and I can leave outdoors that won't rot. I thought about metal but I only have a gas welding setup and I think it would take forever to weld all those joints up and I would have to buy a few new tools. Any other weatherproof ideas? I hope to find something that can withstand the sun/rain and last more than a few years outside.

I bought my BGE a few weeks ago, and have been doing a lot of research on the internet. Looking at different designs, pictures, and reading a lot of forums.

I am going to be pulling the trigger on getting these guys to build me a little over 16' of outdoor cooking bliss.

Going with 2 pieces that I will be able to reconfigure if I want to move them.
33" sink with 30" offset access door - 9'3" long
(This will give me prep area and also plenty of storage for charcoal / smoking wood and my turkey fryer)

        Cabinet 2 - 7' long
        Large BGE
        Triple Drawers
30" access door with 28" grill

        All granite counter tops

These guys will let you bring your own equipment to them if you want.

I built this one several years ago with pressure treated wood. Let it dry for a couple of months and then stained it with TWP Deck Stain. No signs of wear at all.

Ironically I was just having this conversation with a coworker this morning. My kamado is on a metal rolling cart but after we move I plan to build in a table, hopefully covered though. Watching

What about using some of that composite decking material? Will it stand up to the heat? Weight? Just an idea as I've never used the stuff, but they make pretty sturdy playgrounds out of it. Cost might be high though.

I think I may try to salvage this cypress table to get me through summer. The legs have rotted off on one side. I think I will repair the base with some pressure treated legs and then find a long term solution. I am curious if cedar would hold up long term. I am looking for something I will not have to seal every year.

Good surface prep and a quality deck stain will last a long time. I'm 3 years into this deck and I doubt I will need to rework it for at least another 2 or 3 minimum.

I made this one out of Cedar. It definitely doesn't look like this anymore, but it's not bad. I need to sand and redo the urethane. It's been uncovered for over a year.

Great looking table. Saved that one for future reference.
