Pick them when they start turning orange on the bottom, let them ripen in the house.

Pick them as soon as you see the first hint of pink. Ripen in the house. They will be awesome

Trick I used to use is to hang a few empty red soda cans on each plant..preferably before you have any ripe tomatoes. Still might lose a few, but they peck at the cans then leave.

I hang CD's from above the garden. The spinning and the flashing must bother them because it has worked this season. Birds ate most our crop last year.

Mockingbirds serve absolutely no useful purpose on this earth whatsoever.

I use a netting on all my fruit trees. It's called Bird-X. When mockingbirds get tangled in it I just leave them and let em die.

Many years ago I knew someone who put rat traps in the fig trees to catch birds. Can't do that now and I would say netting would be the best bet. I have had them land on the rubber snakes.

I don't have a bird problem but the deer are tearing my garden up. Any ideas to keep the deer out with out building a fence?

Fishing string. Weave it around your garden, most birds once hung in it will stay clear. Works down here on the coast to keep seagulls away from outdoor eateries.

Aluminum pie plates hung on fishing line so the spin and flash do the trick. Movement and flashing really freaks them out. Works on squirrels as well.

This. At the first hint of pink on the bottom of tomato, pick em and bring em in. The are through growing and will get nice n red within a couple days. Problem solved.
