There is a few but not many. My buddy shot one on his place near midkiff when we were in high school. There is a bunch in crane and further south. I've killed a bunch of em over the years. They are blind, stupid, ugly, and ruin a deer hunt. Lol. I wouldn't recommend shooting one on any land out here while at work. Some of the ranchers I know cleaned up nice when they caught an oil field guy poaching lol. There is a few guys on here who have em. If I could load all of ours up I'd bring em all to you haha. Lord I hate them probably worse than pigs.

I drove up on a pair in crane on my old place. They were 40 yards away. I got out, grabbed my bow, put on my release, knocked an arrow, ranged one, and killed it. He never saw me hahaha. They are dumb.

I've killed one on our place North of Angelo, just a few hours from midland. They seem to be making a comeback (loosely stated).

They make a cool mount and taste great if cooked right.

People can say this or that isn't REAL hunting, but who cares. The hunt is up to the hunter. Not everybody's hunt is spot and stalk in the back country living out of a spike camp using hand made bows and arrows.

If it's edible and legal do it!

Not every one is a stealthy javelina ninja like yourself apparently. I mean nearly everyone on here talks about goat hunts and hog hunts and last time I checked they weren't the hardest animals to stalk either.

Hell I'd kill something with a tack hammer if it put food on the grill! Guess I'm not a hunter, but I won't starve!

But I can't wait for the day I get to do a Colorado elk hunt with a bow! Guess that makes me diverse!

Everything I'd like to say, Jeremy already said.

I think they're a blast to hunt, and they're great table fare.
As long as I haven't killed my two for the year, I'll never pass one up.

We get it, its not for you

"I guess you take them for granted if you've ever hunted in an area that has them"

Also, by making this statement you assume that everyone is like you, which they are not.

The only good hog is a dead one as far as I'm concerned. Can't say the same about javies. They have their place. Don't know why anyone would pay money for an "exotic" sheep or goat hunt, but whatever floats your boat.

my first real bow kill was a javelina...nasty animal...tasted terrible...but that's probably on me.

                    Just Hunt!

The Javi in my avatar was killed 30 miles south of Midland first week of bow season... Only one I saw Last year.... I'd shoot one again if I had the chance.. Dont know of anybody selling hunts in this area though... Did come across a hunt in Marathon tx a couple months ago.. Fairly decent pricing too... Some other hunters on my lease got a ticket for shooting them and just letting them lay from the GW... So I guess if you dont eat it Hide the body well...lol

The biggest javi (admittedly i have not seen alot) Ive ever seen was dead on 1788, 3 or 4 months ago just north of midland.

They are fun to spot and stalk. I know folks I can give them to for the table. I wouldn't call it the greatest challenge but dove shooting isn't a real hunt to me. For me it's about being out there with my friends, watching each others blunders, shots and misses as well as blood trailing and sharing the excitement when we do get them. It is a good "hunt" IMO. I don't hunt for the challenge. I do feel more challenged on some hunts than others and may get more sense of accomplishment on some than others but I'm out there to enjoy a lifestyle I have known since I was a kid big enough to chase squirrels with a BB gun. Back then every animal was needed protein on the table for a poor family. Now I hunt because it is who I am and killing is part of hunting. The meat is an added bonus.

I have seen a total of 5 Dead javalina's on 1788 during the past 2.5 years. 3 of them were around the Andrews/ Gaines county line. The other 2 were just about 2 or 3 miles north of 158 on 1788.

I didn't know they existed out here either, but they do.
