Round Rock police officers shot and killed a dog Friday morning while responding to a burglary call.
Police were dispatched to a home in the 1700 block of Parkside Circle at 9:05 a.m. to investigate a burglary alarm, police said.
Two officers arrived and saw that the front door was slightly open. Officer’s entered the home and announced their presence, and when no one answered they began to search the home, police said.
As they approached a bedroom, the officers encountered a 120-pound rottweiler who they said became aggressive and moved toward them. One officer fired one round while the other fired six shots. The dog died at the scene, and animal control responded to remove the animal, police said.
No one else was in the home, and police found no evidence of a forced entry, police said.
The incident will be reviewed in an internal investigation. Neither of the officers has been placed on leave, police said.
“It is an unfortunate incident any time that a pet is killed,” department spokeswoman Angelique Myers said
