Next hunting season, possibly going up to Montana, around Thompson Falls. Never have been out of state before, nor hunted out of state either. I was just wondering what'd I have to do for a license and all that for deer/elk. Doing some research now, but any tbh'ers have any suggestions or answers?

Each state has different laws. A lot of the western states have open units and draw units. Check with the outdoor regulations site and call them for questions about the particular areas and species you plan to hunt.
I want to say Montana has some of those ridiculous laws such as no lighted nocks, or no expandable broad heads. You may even get a number for a game warden in the area and discuss further to make sure you're covered.
It's been my experience that very few states are as simple as Texas. License, Hunters Ed, your G2G.

Read the entire manuel save the pdf on your computer and save it to your desktop. Your western states are much much different than Texas is. Most states are a draw only or first come first served on OTC tags. Looks like you would be in unit 121 if to the north of Thompson Falls and 123 to the south. Looks like you can get a general license for only restricted areas of either unit and you will need to make dang sure you read where that exact zone you are allowed to hunt is and make sure you stay within it and know how to access it. Also in most of these states the general units or areas are the subpar areas with few animals extreme terrain or very little public access with tons of private land depending on the state. So keep in mind that the hunting will be tougher. That said go for it man and have fun.
Here is another great tool to help find exactly where you want to hunt.

I have that PDF file and looked at it just a little. Seen that non-residents can't buy tags over the counter and have to buy some combination deal in a drawing. But i think the B license is different for the antlerless. So I'm thinkin we might have to draw for tags and we might be to late. But thanks elkbowhunter, I'm sure that'll help a lot and I'll give her a call on all that.
