it's a well done cat from what I can see looking past that god aweful wood pedestal... Man that thing really doesn't do justice to your cat.. Put him on some rocks or in some grass... Hell even a limb. But climbing on wood pedestal he looks out of place like he got lost and found himself in a trophy case at the local HS. Kills the whole piece to me.
You guys asked
Coach W..... Love your candor. The wooden pedestal was used to give this piece a more "formal" look and to bring something different to my game room (and to show potential clients options). I have other bobcat mounts with rocks and habitat, including one jumping at a couple of flushing blue quail.
One thing to remember about commercial taxidermy, if the customer likes it, it a good mount. If you dare enter a piece in a taxidermy competition, it better be perfect, based on live animals,..,,,, and the judges interpretation of that live animal.
I have seen bobcat mounts that were given a third place ribbon that were twice as good as most commercial mounts.
If y'all really...REALLY.... want to see top quality taxidermy work, be in Temple on Saturday June 28th. Go to the Hilton Gardens Inn between 10:30 and 2:00 and wonder through the competition room. The Texas Taxidermy Association is having their annual convention and the public can visit at that time.
