    Crawfish Equipment Questions

I am wanting to have a crawfish boil over July 4 but I had a couple questions about equipment I need.

    1) The pot. What size and aluminum or stainless steel? Has anyone used the aluminum Outdoor Gourmet pot from Academy? I would prefer to stay around $100 on the pot.

    2) The burner. I have the burner that came with the turkey fryer package from Academy. I think it is just a standard propane burner. Nothing fancy. I think the whole package was around $40 and included a turkey fryer pot and the burner. Will that burner work for a crawfish boil or do I need a different burner?

Also, will there still be crawfish to buy in July?

I think July is getting toward the end of season.

      1) Aluminum is fine, bigger is better. I have a 80 qt and find myself wishing it was 100 although it is definitely plenty to get the job done.

      2) You really need a jet burner, you can get a 105,000 BTU jet burner at Academy for $50

      3) You're pushing it, I would wait to purchase 1 and 2 till you know for sure you can purchase #3

        Pot... Alunimum will be fine
Size....60 or 80 quart models are most common An 80qt will hold a full bag of crawfish at one time.
burner.... yours will work just fine
Date.... It will be close to the end of the season might be tough finding some.

Like said above, bigger is better, but what you have will work. Ive used a turky fryer in a pinch before. You just have to cook several batches.

go with the 100 qt , they don't make pot stretchers

July 4th is crab boil and shrimp boil season traditionally for us! crawfish tend to be hard by then. Yes, bigger size is best and the burner should be a single stream flame.......not a round flame like on your home stove!
