How to get rid of a coon in the attic?

Obviously I need to figure out how he's getting in there but the bandit is crawling around in the attic and scratching like he's digging for something. How would you get rid of it?

ninja clothes, thermal glass for spotting and make stalk thru the attic with nightvison scope on a pellet gun. have fun.

or duke coon trap with marshmellows in it

Live trap is the only way I would know of. Hopefully no nest with little ones are in there or you will want to find it to get rid of all of them.

I would use either a live trap or maybe one of the conibear traps. If you catch him in a leg trap, be prepared for some serious damage to whatever is within reach of the coon. I posted a while back about my dad catching one in a leg trap in the back of our Kawasaki mule. I'm picking the mule up from the repair shop next week. Looks like it's going to be quite expensive(already over $1000 ).

My exwife was a Cust Svc rep for a pest control company many moons ago. She had a customer call in and complain that the traps set out by the company hadn't done the job of getting the raccoon out of the attic, so she wanted the company to take care of the mess/damages of her taking matters into her own hands. Apparently she'd taken a 20 gauge after that ole' coon, and after several shots managed to take him down. Tough old lady.

Place a bright light and a radio tuned to a talk show in your attic and after a night or two he will leave on his on.

Try throwing some old dog blankets in the attic, it worked for us.
