Northern Mallards have two white bars on the speculum

I had a customer kill one years ago. Very fine looking duck. Had no clue what it was at the time.

That would have to be one bad a.. green wing drake or one really desperate mallard drake for that small of a duck to be breeding with that big of a duck. I would guess widgeon x mallard or mallard x gadwall.

A TPWD biologist told me that almost all hybrids are half mallard because a mallard drake will breed anything that will let it.
