So I made a Specs run at lunch to try and beat the weekend crowds. Been investigating the whiskey making process since I watched a "Modern Marvels" show on history of distilling.
Did you know that many of these "Texas" whiskeys many of us have grown so fond of are actually not distilled here? Take 1835 which I have bought a bunch of. It is bottled/blended in Texas but likely just bought from the true distilleries in Kentucky. Look on the bottle - unless it says "distilled by..." then the maker is really just buying it from someone else and blending.
Some actually do distill, like Whitmeyer's in Houston and I think Yellow Rose. Rebecca Creek is the real deal as well.
Not that this info will make me stop buying 1835. Just thought I'd share. I left today with some Larceny and a 1.75 of Dickel.
