I have been shooting recurves and longbows for quite a few years, but these are just my opinions.

Don't get the PSE coyote. It would make a great fishing bow but, to me, a large part of the recurve attraction is the wood, how it feels, how it looks, lack of weight, quietness.

I would highly recommend buying a used recurve. You can find a very nice used hand made recurve for $400. Unfortunatly they are alot like Lays potato chips...I've probably only owned about 20. Right now I have two, both are Morrison take down recurves and I think my search for THE bow is over.

I'm with Scott G on this one. You can pick up a used custom bow in your budget. I would go to some 3D shoots and talk to the trad guys there. Most will let you shoot their bow if you ask and you can try different ones to see which you prefer. Since this is your first recurve I would stay low on the draw weight (40# - 50# max). Start out practicing close and stay close until you learn good form and release. Get with traditional shooters in your area to learn good form and release. And practice, practice, practice. If you have never shot trad before you will quickly learn how hard it is as your groups at 10yds will seem atrocious. But stick with it and after a while your brain will learn and you will improve. Most important of all is if you get to where you feel like you can hunt with trad equip, don't take a shot that is out of your comfort zone. Your mind is a BIG part of trad shooting. If you are getting ready to take a shot on a deer and you are thinking you will mess it up, you probably will. I used to shoot a compound and when I switched to trad I was very worried about losing animals, or not getting enough meat to fill the freezer. I couldn't have been more wrong. Trad equipment has limitations but it also has advantages. It is more of a personal preference. I love hunting with simple equipment and no sights. There is no better feeling than when you recover your first animal taken with trad equipment.

Sorry this was so long, I got carried away
Have fun with your new recurve when you get it and welcom to the dark side,

Martin makes a good recurve. I shoot a martin hunter and love it.

If you can find any large traditional shoots, there generally are used bows for sale. My favorite (actually an addition with 3 now) are old Red Wing Hunters, and I hunt with a 35 year old bow that shoots perfectly. On eBay they typically sell for $100 - $125, some go for more but there more collectable, older bows at the higher prices.

                  Just a thought.

Bob Lee is clearing out the Hunter model and is selling them for 499.00. A great bow, a good price, its a takedown so heavier/ lighter limbs available and can be had. great people to deal with it may be the only Bow you'll ever need.

Bear Grizzly is great bow for a beginners. It's nothing fancy, but you will have fun shooting it.
