    5 ton a/c replacement cost

My in-laws need a new complete system and have gotten 2 bids. First one was $10,000 and other one was $7500. This is in Ft Worth. Both bids sound too high to me. Anybody in that line of work want to chime in?

Not an AC man, but I did the same thing two months ago. Spent 10k installed on a 5-ton carrier infinity heat pump. Pretty expensive, but I'll pay for a good cooling system!

I got quotes anywhere from 9,500-13,000 on my system. Everything is more expense these days. I live in the DFW area as well

Spent $7500 on a 4 ton Rudd 3 or 4 year ago. My bids ranged from the $7500 to over $11,000. The $7500 was from the guy that serviced the old Rudd. The others wanted to sell me something else, but when the original unit, Rudd, lasted over 30 year, why switch. $7500 for a 5 ton sounds reasonable unless it is a no name unit.

Ok I guess everything is just high now. I had a new 5 ton put in my last house from scratch. They had to make all the ducts and everything. It was a Trane and was less than $3000 total back in 2004.

I wish I lived closer to them so I could check their unit myself. I honestly don't think they need a new one. It was cooling fine and just suddenly stopped cooling. They called someone out and he told them it would cost $700 to get it cooling again but he said the compressor wouldn't last through the Summer. Not sure how he knew that but sounds like he wanted to sell a system to me. He's the one that bid it at $10,000.

                Sounds shady at best!

Price is not out of line depending on the equipment.

I'd call a couple of other legit companies for a 3rd and 4th opinion.

Richard (Eliscountyhog)with Walker air is a member here but not sure if they go to Tarrant County.

If Walker can't help I work with Lentz Services alot and know them very well. They will not BS your parents.

Not sure on change outs but I pay less than that for 5 ton Lennox 14 seer units and full access installation in my new construction. But I also know their margins are WAY HIGHER when replacing older unit....cause they can.

Not sure on the new unit. I was quoted $7.5-$10k for a 5 ton unit. They said mine wouldn't last the summer and if it did my electric bill would be $350. That was two years ago and the highest my electrice bill has been is $130.
That's for a 1,900 sq ft house in houston. Thermastat is set on 70 anytime i'm home.
If something happens to mine I plan on repairing it first.
