Taking a young man to shoot for his 1st time

Waiting for my girl friends 19 yr old son and his buddy to get here. Blaine's dad passed away when he was 10. His mom's BF never showed him any real interest, was basically a jerk so Susan got rid of him about 3 years ago. This kid's a great musician and just needs a man to show interest and teach him a little about life. He has also decided to enlist in the Navy and he also knows my youngest Army son.

So, here I go and hope to teach him about safety and the pleasure I get from shooting...whether at game or just targets. Funny, but I can see the "hunger" on this young man's face, just wanting to learn and grow with some positive influence. Wish us luck!

Good job. He will remember his first time shooting a bow in your yard for a long time.

Here he is with Firearms, no bow this time

[B]I should have been more specific...He shot a .45, M-4, AR and 30-06. The first pic is shooting his buddies M-4 (took him also.) The other pic is with the AR, did not think to get pics of him shooting the 45 or 30-06. I did not realize he was a lefty, so it was awkward at first for him, but he has NEVER shot anything so we took our time.

The pic, on the bench with the AR...we started with a empty magazine but his finger is NOT on the trigger as it may appear. He also learned NOT to hold the magazine, pull it relatively tight to his shoulder and learned how to sight thru the scope. The funny thing that surprised me was shooting the 30-06. It is a Savage Action mounted on a "Ultimate Sniper Stock" with a 6x24x50mm scope + Harris Bipod. Needless to say it's pretty heavy so recoil is reduced. He put about 10-15 rounds thru it. In fact, he shot all quite a bit, surprising!

All in all he did GREAT and admitted he's HOOKED on our sport. I don't bow hunt anymore but my son will teach him when they get together.

I had "forgot" the satisfied feeling one get's when watching someone do something they have never done before! Now, when he get's to shoot a bow, next step is the "thrill of the hunt." A GOOD DAY HERE TBH!
