Recommendations on protein feed for deer

If you are using a spin cast feeder don't put protein pellets in it. They have a bad habit of clogging in spin cast feeders. Soy beans are a good high protein alternative for a spin cast. If you have a feeder designed for protein pellets any feed store protein made for deer is just fine. Now is a good time to feed protein - any time outside of hunting season will help with antler development and or unborn fawn development.

We use a cottonseed meal protein cube mixed 50/50 with corn and feed from our regular spin feeders. We buy it at Rowena Pellet Mill east of San Angelo. I think it's about 28% protein and is a small 1/4" pellet with a mollases added. Don't use any more than 50% ratio to corn or the feeder will clog up.
