    grrrr...I hate having employees sometimes...

We had one of our trucks totaled last week...the adjustor looked at it a couple of days ago so we are pulling the bed, etc.off before it goes to the junk yard...

Both tanks were full of gas so I told a couple of my guys to siphon them out and fill up the forklift...then leave the rest in the cans (I had plenty of cans)

I came around the corner a few minutes ago just as one of the guys was screwing the gas cap back on his personal truck and turning to walk back with an empty can.

Now this is a guy that has been with us 20+ years, makes good money, I pay 100% of his and his families insurance etc...and he goes and steals $20 of gas from me...(if that was the only can he put in his truck)...I just don't get it.

I didn't say anything because I didn't actually catch him pouring the gas in, but this just ruined my day...

    sorry, just needed to vent...

gas is becoming a huge issue with employees that require any kind of travel for your business... our employees are griping about it but if it was $2 a gallon they wouldn't...

What is customary for mileage each day an employee drives? shouldn't it be expected that they can drive up to 30 miles or so one way for work, meaning 60 miles a day, on their own dime?

I have friends that drive into town from the suburbs sometimes 50-60+ miles one way and their company does not pay for their gas and affording a safe house close to work is out of their budget. All of us are feeling the gas pinch but of course employees think they deserve to be compensated.

Don't let this slide...if he gets away with it he will do it (or something else again and maybe others employees will too) Call him in and ask him what he was doing with your can around his truck.....then maybe a week off to think about his bad! He'll (and all others) think twice about it next time...

If fuel was $2.00 he probably never would have thought about it. Bad economic times brings out the thief lurking deep within lots of folks. You've heard the saying "Tough times don't build character as much as they reveal it"

Caught one of mine filling his personal vehicle up on his company gas card (only for diesel for the big truck). Anyone else I'd have fired, but he sure knows that I know about it now.

I gave everyone an across the board $1 an hour raise 6 months ago when the gas prices started jumping and another $1 raise when gas hit $4.

I told them then that that was it...I just couldn't afford to raise our prices and their raises were coming right out of my and my partners pocket. I told them that people all across the country were having to deal with the new reality of gas prices and I hadn't told them to move to the country and drive a full size truck 40 miles to work.

Tough call. But, if he'll steal $20 worth of gas under those conditions, what else will he do? I could almost empathize with a minimum wage worker. But, you say he makes good money. Personally, I wouldn't want him in my place of business. Shows a real lack of character to me.

Courtney, if I win the lottery and buy my dream ranch I guarantee you will be getting a call...

go empty his tank and then sell him the gas for slightly higher price than what it was
