    Verizon Edge Plan

Is anyone currently on the Verizon Edge Plan?

My wife and I are ready for new phones and are at the point to where we can upgrade. She went to the Verizon store and they wanted her to sign up for the Edge plan. Similar to the AT&T Next plan, you pay for the full retail phone price over monthly payments and can upgrade to a new phone after 50% of the price of the phone has been paid. Is there a catch with these types of plans?

I compared the Edge plan numbers to what it would cost to pay for a subsidized phone and a standard plan and it's about the same cost (maybe a little cheaper for the Edge plan). I just feel like there's something I'm missing that will end up biting me in the rear.

They tried to get me to sign up for it so I went home and googled it and from what I read it seems like you kinda get screwed out of your old phone or you pay pretty much full retail price for it to keep it when you trade up

Yes, to upgrade to a new phone you have to trade in your previous phone. On the traditional "More Everything Plan" they just make you pay more for the smartphone fee to help compensate for lower initial cost of the phone. For example, in the More Everything Plan, the smartphone fee is $40 per device added to the plan. Under the Edge plan, they give you a $10 discount for plans <10GB and $25 for the 10GB and greater plans.

I think it comes down to do you want a new phone each year?

I just upgraded with sprint, and it was the same thing. Pay 20 bucks a month and in a year new phone or pay 20 bucks a month for 2 years and keep the phone.

I chose a regular upgrade which was a two year contract and paying, 150 for the phone. Why would I pay 300 or 600 when I know I will keep the phone for two years,
