depending on whether it has been shot out before is to whether there will be many deer on it at all. There are lots of deer in that area, so if you find the right place that has not been shot out or over hunted you should have PLENTY of deer to watch, horn wise they are OK. I would say your chance at a 125 inch deer are pretty legit, much over that would be a really good deer for the area. I am sure the bigger ones are there somewhere, just not in many numbers. I have seen a couple that would push 140 in that area.

I am on a lease just east Breckenridge and north west of Strawn, the place is just over 3000 acres. Last year there was only three deer taken. A doe opening weekend, a little basket 8 that really should have been allowed to walk [ no I wasn't the guy who shot it ] and a decent ten point taken the last weekend that was about 5 or 6 years old.

The deer are there, just very nocternal. The hung in the oaks all day and got lethargic on the bumper crop of acorns and didn't even come to the feeders. We are covered with oak trees so they didn't need to move to eat.

Ray's in Breckenridge [the processor we've used] said he didn't get half the deer last year he has gotten in the past. There is a processor in Strawn, name eludes me right now, I think he saw a lot less deer than normal as well.

Like these guys said, look for sign. The place I'm on had plenty, I didn't, and for that matter, no one was seeing the deer.

Good luck, the area has quite a few deer, at least in the past few years it has been a good area.

Last year was an anomoly. We had huge amounts of rain and tons of browse everywhere. It was the same all over the area up there.

Not near the acorns this year. Jaspro is correct, last year was unusual to say the least. The rag weed was 5 feet high and the acorns like a carpet.

I think this year will be much more productive.
