Need help finding an old truck

I want to try and locate my grandfathers old Chevy pickup. If it's still around I'm wanting to purchase it and restore it for my kids to drive. He sold it before he passed away. Does anyone know how I could begin to track it down? I don't have any information other than my grandfathers name.

Wondering if maybe with the name a driving record could be pulled. Maybe that could link the truck. I don't know. Just thinking out loud

any chance that you know his insurance carrier? They would have the VIN, if they will give it to you

Maybe the county tax office could look him up and get VIN from when he paid for tags.

He died in 1997. Sold the truck about a year before that. This may be a list cause, but I'm hoping its not
