    Bulk corn storage ideas

Looks like this year I am going to cut my deer corn bill way down. But, I need to figure out a way to store it and easy to fill a feeder since it will not be in a sack. Looking to store around 2000 to 3000 pounds of corn. Right now I was planing on buying several 55 gal drums, but I would have to buy 7 or 8 barrels. Any other ideas???

55 gallon barrels will hold about 300 to 340lbs of corn depending on how much you shake them during filling. Do the math.

Yep, based on 300 pounds (the will hold nearly 350 pounds without a funnel) 7 barrels will 2100 pounds and 8 will be 2400 pound. Did I miss something? Just looking for a cheaper/better way.

I use an old, unworking chest freezer. It works good for corn, and you can find them cheap

Build yourself a corn trailer like this one. http://www.brutontrailers.com/easy-feed.html

Don't know how to store your corn, but I have a good 12 volt auger that will move that corn into your feeders. I no longer use it, and I should sell it. Cheap !

                Hey Scott,

How long were you planning on storing the corn?

I have found that corn stored over a long period of time inevitability gets turned into dust by weevils.

I use the big plastic wheeled trash can to take to the mill to get my corn. It holds about 525-550 lbs. I drive to the feeder, dip it out in 5-gal buckets and then into the feeder barrel. Any that is left when the feeders are full, I store in sacks and use for hand feeding as I always carry in some to put at my log pile bait stations around my stands.

We put 12,000 lbs in a cotton trailer that we have rigged up and store it in a shed all year long and don't have a single problem at all. We fill up our hopper for our skid steer with 2,000 lbs at a time and fill the feeders with it. We don't cover the corn or anything just stays inside a shed that is varmint proof.

We use old molasses tubs from feeding cows. They hold about 150# and stack nicely. We have tons from our farm, but many farmers would probably just give them away.
