Is The Country of Jordan US Friendly?

My MIL is a missionary in Jordan, which is in the middle East near Israel, Syria, etc.

Anyway, my wife is thinking about going to visit this summer and possibly taking the boys.

I am skeptical but want to be open minded. Could be a cool trip for them.

Anybody have any thoughts about Americans traveling to this country or region?

Americans are not welcomed in many countries including Arab countries that are primarily muslim.

As far as the Middle East goes, it is relatively safe and stable. Both King Abdullah II and his predecessor, King Hussein are/were pretty decent allies of the US. They no longer try to overtly harrass Israel and they actively maintain a peace treaty with them. There are a whole lot more dangerous countries on Earth than Jordan. There is also the opportunity to go see Petra, which would be fantastic. That being said, would I want my wife and kids going there? Not in a million years. It is still the Middle East, the most volatile freaking place on the planet.

I would go in a heartbeat! If you are concerned go with them for 7 days or so.
