    A/V receiver/Uverse box advice needed!

    Hey guys,
So I have ATT Uverse, never really had any problems with it. I had an older model Onkyo receiver which started to crap out on me. So, I bought a brand new Pioneer Elite Vsx-43 receiver. When I ran my hdmi cable from the uverse box into the receiver, every station I tuned to had pink/purple dots flashing on the screen, then it would flash purple horizontal lines, and also snow would flash up. Basically, the signal from the uverse is getting degraded when going through the receiver out to the tv. When I run the hdmi cable directly from the uverse box to the tv, the problem goes away. I called att and they said the signal doesn't seem strong enough to go through the receiver clearly. THey suggested running the hdmi cable straight to the tv, and running an optical cable for sound from the uverse box to the receiver. Alternatively, they said I could get an HDMI signal booster to boost the signal from the uverse box before it hits the receiver.

Any techy guys out there that might have other solutions? Thanks guys!

I'd say your new receiver has a problem. I've had HDMI issues in the past with Pioneer receivers in Media rooms.

Try another source on the same input of the receiver (i.e. - Blu ray player plugged into the same input as the Uverse was) and see if the problem stays. Also, after you plug your devices in using HDMI, make sure they are turned off, or turn off then back on. When HDMI starts up, there's info going back and forth from each device through that cable. When you interrupt that communication, you can cause issues. Restarting the device restarts communication so everything jives again. Sometimes a full reset on a Uverse box may be required - unplug it from power or hold the power button down for 5-10 seconds.

    Hope this helps...
