    Hunting land size?

Trying to get my wife's family on board with buying some land in the future to enjoy the outdoors. What do you think good size piece of property would be? Would like a small pond on it as well. I am thinking 50-75 acres would be sufficient and I would try to get permission from my neighbors for recovery and allow them the same. Just curious whay y'all think. Finding some properties that look promising in Red River Co. but don't know how the hunting is up there.

I have 110 in west Texas, and my neighbor on the right has the same and my neighbor on let has 3k acres with 4 Hunters. My 110 feels like a descent size

I've got ~50 acres that my family has been hunting on for over 60 years. Many, many deer have been killed there over the years. We've got 3 stands and 6 feeders and a 1-acre stock tank that we keep full with a water well during the summer months. We draw plenty deer and it helps that just about everyone around us for several square miles are all part of a MLD program.

It is definitely important to have permission from your neighbors to recover/track animals that have been shot. We've had to do that several times while bowhunting. Would more land make for better hunting? Maybe, maybe not...It all depends on your area and neighbors. If that is what you can afford though, go for it! Aside from hunting, it also makes for a great family getaway!

50 is "enough" in most cases but one things for sure, whatever you buy you'll wish you had more!

If you get high fenced out, that is almost the same a being high fenced in. What is your deer populationper acre in your area and how many can you hharvest before killing them out. Calculate predator and normal mortality for a buffer on your calculation.

This is true. And how much more depends on who hunts next door and do they follow good herd management practices.

So if a person had a 100 acres how many feeders would you guys suggest?
Would locating feeders near water tanks be ideal?

Our family owns 60 acres, my brother and I both easily hunt it. We have 3 corn feeders on it, 1 at top, 1 mid-way and 1 in the back. We keep pressure as light as possible, we pretty much walk out of camp to hunt them all and fill feeders on Sundays on the way out. We also put in a half acre tank and plant about 2 acres of wheat or oats in the fall. We have lots of family gatherings there and guys trips too, in the off season. During deer season, we keep it pretty quite around there.

Depends on the cover. I have 40 acres that hunts like it is WAY bigger in Oklahoma, and 80 that hunts like 10. All depends on the amount of cover.
