    Hunting with an AR???

How is it excepted on ranches these days? Used to be a fella pulled out an AR and everybody thought he was a fruit loop. Times have changed it seems. Not that I'm one to care about what people think myself. But I really have thought about buying on for my daughter in 6.8 due to that round, the adjustable stocks and so fourth. Honest opinions fellas. Good or bad. Thank ya!!!

I would not buy the 6.8, I would go the 300BLK instead..

Sweet round and my kids love it..

I'll be purchasing a Ambush 6.8 soon for a lot of my hunting needs
Love the ballistics on the round and plan on my girlfriend using it a bunch too

I initially had a 5.56/233 and hunted with it but it was just too small of a round for my comfort

I have killed many deer and pigs with AR, just like any other non mag caliber its all about shot placement. I have taken whitetail from 50 yards to 250 yards with .223 chambered AR. When my daughter kills her first deer this coming year it will probably be with my 300 blackout AR, they are a good rifle for a number of reasons. Adjustable stock, quick follow up shot or shot at second animal (pigs and coyote,) they are very light recoiling, and can be had in about any caliber out there. Just know the limit of the round you are using and its just another tool.

Fellas I know the rounds will work. I'm not worried about that. But how are they excepted these days on big whitetail ranches, exotic ranches, outfitters etc?

Tuff, recoil 6.8 vs 300 BLKO?

I have one I use on coyotes. I may let the kids shoot a deer with it this year. Heck, I may shoot a deer with it!

              I'd go w/the 6.8 over the 300blk.
I have both and would grab the 6.8 over the 300 for any serious work.

if you got a place to shoot, i'll let you and her shoot both and you decide.

Ragin, I think AR platforms are excepted these days anywhere guns in general are excepted. So any ranch that is gun friendly and you should be fine with an AR in 6.8.

I think that times have changed and the BLACK RIFLE is here to stay.

I've shot both. I went with 300BO but I reload. I don't remember much recoil on the 6.8 but it's been awhile since I last shot it.

Couldn't tell you much about ranches opinion on the ar. I wouldn't think it would matter.

Most ranches I have been to are of the philosophy that if you are paying the bill you can shoot it with whatever you want. I wouldn't think most gun hunting ranches would have a problem with it. I don't personally like "trophy" hunting with a 223 but I have killed pigs, coyotes, does and one wild as heck mouflon with one. I think any of the other calibers mentioned above would be fantastic.

I agree, heck I may even buy one some day. So, you're that person other than who doesn't yet own one...

BTW-I'd go with the 6.5 Grendel for general purpose or a 204 of varmint if I ever bought one but that just me.

                            Thank you sir!

Ragin', it has been my experience that a black rifle generally evokes a positive response rather than a negative one. For just the reasons you suggest, it is an excellent choice for the kids/ladies who may not be comfortable with a full size long gun. My preference is the 6.8. I have an AR-Performance upper that really likes the 120 gr. Hornady stuff. It is essentially a .270 out to 200+ yards so plenty of white-tail power and in this platform, very little recoil. It also is a light gun to carry as well (compared to a conventional bolt gun). For years, my specialty in our fellowship ministry has been teaching the kids to shoot. I use AR's for that and for shotgunning, I use a couple converted Saiga-20's with the 6 position stock... These black guns (and shotguns) fit everyone, and are generally accepted pretty much anywhere.
