What does best mean to you? Some people like fast action, some prefer a slower more progressive action. What type of fishing are you going to do with it?

I'm just talking overall brand quality. I can choose the action from there. But this will be for float tube lake fishing wooly buggers for trout mostly.

In that price range I suggest a Ross Essence.

Try and buy any name brand that is lightly used; TFO, Orvis, Sage, G.Loomis, etc.
My first fly rod was used 5wt Orvis rod - it was nothing special, but it was decent.

When I figured out how much I loved fly fishing, I started buying nice rods.
I'm personally a fan of G.Loomis, and Sage rods.

          Best of luck!

              I've heard (and fished with/borrowed) a TFO BVK 9' 5w 4pc is a great rod. I really want a 5pc, but I'm not sure that's still in your $200 budget.

Here is a link to a new TFO rod for $179 at Tailwaters in Dallas.
These guys are awesome to work with, I would call them tomorrow and ask for their counsel. Their phone # is listed at the top of the web page.

Tailwaters Fly Fishing Co. is a top fly shop and fly fishing travel outfitter. Shop online or in Dallas, TX for gear from Simms, Sage, Howler Brothers & more.

It's hard to beat a TFO in that price range. For woolly buggers, I like a fast action. They have several different models and actions. http://www.tforods.com/fly-fishing/rods.html

Wow. TFO has been my number one go to rod for at least the last 10 years. I must not know any better. The fish don't either apparently. TFO makes a very, very good rod in my opinion.

I would look used. St croix, sage, Scott, newer orvis are all good. Lots of guys love the tfo's in that range. I would at least look at eBay. Also, 4-5 years ago field and stream did a blinded head to head contest with 5 weights. A cabelas brand rod won that one. You might try to find that article.
