    Calculating bow opener.

I was always told that in order to calculate bow opener, you first determine general opener which is the first full weekend in November and then subtract 5 weeks. That logic would put opener on September 27th for 2014.

Is this not the rule for calculating opening weekends? I have read posts recently that seem to contradict this logic...

I do not believe that to be the case.

The bow opener starts on the Saturday closest to October 1st. With the first on a Wednesday this year it's a toss up.

Also there is no guarantee of 5 weekends of bow season, we've had four. It's cyclical.

Having said that. ...if it opens on September 27th, I'm good with that.

Think we are going to lose the extra Sept days this year

From the looks of the calendar, bow opener will be on 10/4 this year

How could it be a toss up? If indeed it is closest to 1st... then october 4th is the closest.

                          THIS^^

I forget the exact wording but we checked with TPWD a couple months ago, so we could begin booking hunters for next season and the 27th is the opener. They explained the rule to me and I promptly forgot it. Lol! In any case, the 27th is the verified date per TPWD in Austin.

Well so much for the "Sat closest to 10/1" rule then

But if I get an earlier start I am not mad
