Philips head screw messed up - need to remove

I'm removing some interior doors to open up the flow in my house. One of the hinges has a wood screw that has a really messed up philips head. Can't get a philips screw driver to back the screw out. I'm thinking of taking a drill and drilling out the screw so I can get the hinge off. What do you think? Other suggestions?

Screw extractor kit. It has a left handed drill bit and an extractor that will back the screw out! They are pretty cheap at harbor freight and work good!

Just drill it out till you can slid the hinge over the remainder of the screw head.

Then put vise grips or regular pliers on the screw and back it out.

This should take less than a minute.

Put puddy in the holes and paint.

As a side note if I have a loose hinge I replace the screws with 4 inch deck screws.

If the screw hole is wallowed out then put a toothpick in the hole and that should do the trick.

Take a hammer and drive the screwdriver into the screw. That'll save you a trip to the store.

Either of these tricks will work.
